Peter LaFleur is the captain of the ADAA team, the Average Joe's. He is also the main protagonist of DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story.
History[]
There is minimal backstory given on Peter Leflaur prior to 1993. It is known however that Peter attended high school in his youth. It can be assumed that he was the founder of Average Joe's gym several years prior to 1993. He was friends (or at least on a friendly basis with) Justin Redman, Gordon Pibb, Steve Cowan, Owen Dittman and Dwight Baumgarten, the latter two were employees of Average Joe's gym.
In 1993, Peter LeFleur as the owner of the understaffed and low-membership Average Joe's gym. During these events, he defaults on the gym's mortgage, with his rival White Goodman purchasing the area of Average Joe's, intending to close it to make more parking space for his own gym. Throughout this, he meets Kate Veatch, the real estate and tax lawyer in charge of sorting out Average Joe's finances.
In an attempt to save Average Joe's from being closed down and demolished, Peter and his associates looked for ways to pay off the required $50,000. When a car wash suggested by Owen fails, Gordon suggests entering a dodgeball tournament in Las Vegas, and all they needed to do is win a regional qualifying match. At the match, their only opponent was Troop 417, a team of Girl Scouts.
Due to the team's inexperience, they lose, but are granted the victory by the ADAA right afterwards when it turns out a member of Trooper 417 was caught taking enhancement drugs. During their celebration later their night, Peter and his associates were confronted by White Goodman, who was spying on Average Joe's, who gloats about his own team who is entering the Las Vegas dodgeball tournament.
Shortly after, he is confronted by Patches O'Houlihan, whom Peter and his associates watched in a 1950s dodgeball training film, begins to coach the Average Joe's team. Peter during this also recruits Kate Veatch when White Goodman gets her to lose her job in a delusional attempt to woo her. At the Las Vegas tournament, they first go up against Blitzkrieg, a German Team coached by David Hasselhoff. Despite being forced to wear the wrong uniform, Average Joe's pulls it through and wins the match.
After winning the match, and receiving the right uniform, they also narrowly win a match against the Lumberjacks, due to Gordon's inner anger. During the celebration of their victory, Patches is killed in the casino, and without their coach, Peter begins to lose hope. He tells Steve that he's not a pirate, and is offered a $100,000 bribe by White Goodman for Average Joe's, which he accepts (which he later bets with for Average Joe's victory). It's only after a pep-talk from Lance Armstrong that he decides to get back into the game.
Despite arriving late to the match, the Chancellor's decision is overturned by 2 out of 3 judges, including Chuck Norris and Average Joe's are allowed to play in the finals against Globo Gym. During the match, Peter is hit out of the game, but comes back in due to a catch from Kate who also sacrifices herself (in the game) to protect Joe. When he manages to knock Me'Shell Jones out of the game, White Goodman throws a ball at Joe, seemingly winning the game, until the referee reveals that White stepped over the line and calls for a sudden death.
During the finale, Peter blindfolds himself with a rag Patches gave him before his death. Using it to instinctually dodge Goodman's attempted throw, he manages to take down White and Average Joe's wins the game. Peter manages to outwit White afterwards by publicly buying the controlling stake of Globo Gym with the extra winnings, and publicly fires him. Peter also starts a relationship with Kate after finding out she's Bisexual, after Dwight previously told him she was a lesbian.
In 1994, Peter LaFleur can be seen in a commercial promoting Average Joe's on television.
Personality[]
Peter is a very laid-back and casual man, never shown to be aggressive or angry. Despite this, his nature led to Average Joe's gym being in danger and almost sold to White Goodman and Globo-Gym due to his laid-back attitude towards running Average Joe's. Even when met with the closure of his business, Peter didn't break under pressure.
Peter also displays a good amount of intelligence and social skills, being able to come back in conversations (or confrontations) with snappy remarks, such as when he completely verbally destroyed White Goodman by investing in the controlling stake of Globo Gym and then publicly firing Goodman when he was met with attitude.
